Horror stories Essay Horror stories have caught the attention of audiences throughout history, be it in literature or in film, because of its ability to ignite in us one of the most primordial of human emotions fear. As H. P. Lovecraft’s quote above explicitly states, there is no other emotion as old and strong as that of fear, particularly that of the unknown. But what is the horror genre? Arguably, it can be said that horror, as exemplified in films, are fictional stories which aim to stoke feelings of horror, terror, fear from its audience. Simple enough as it may sound, however, it has been found that one of the main problematic of dealing with the horror genre when studying it as a text, would be its overlapping characteristics with other genres, such as science fiction and fantasy. However, although horror may oftentimes be viewed as having no clear-cut boundaries, there are several delineations in it when compared to science fiction and fantasy. For example, according to Paul Wells, †¦[T]he horror genre is predominantly concerned with death and the impacts and effects of the past, while science fiction is future-oriented, engaging with how human social existence could develop and dealing with humankind’s predilection for self-destruction. While science fiction is potentially utopian (although often critically grounded), the horror genre is almost entirely dystopic, and often nihilistic in outlook. Science fiction is more concerned with the external and macrocosmic, while horror is arguably preoccupied with the internal and microcosmic. On the issue of crossing the threshold over to the realm of the fantasy genre, its main difference would be that fantasy â€Å"is based on re-imagining the world in a more playful or utopian guise, while only temporarily moving out of (endorsing) the terms and conditions of the status quo. † Horror, on the other hand, does also contain certain elements, but the status quo, for the most part is left untouched. Having shown how horror is a unique and independent genre despite having overlapping similarities with others, this paper will now go into the individual elements of it in order to further elucidate through the use of Alfred Hitchcock’s â€Å"Psycho† as an example. It is important to take note of a genre’s individual characteristics because â€Å"genre is addressed as a system for organizing production as well as groupings of individual films which have collective and singular significance. † Noel Carroll is of the opinion that what sets the horror genre apart from the others is primarily the reaction of the audience to what is being portrayed to them. He says, In horror fictions, the emotions of the audience are supposed to mirror those of the positive human characters in certain, but not all, respects†¦ Our responses are meant, ideally, to parallel those of characters. Our responses are supposed to converge (but not exactly duplicate) those of the characters; like the characters we assess the monster as a horrifying sort of being (though unlike the characters, we do not believe in its existence). This mirroring-effect moreover, is a key feature of the horror genre. For it is not the case of every genre that the audience response is supposed to repeat certain of the elements of the emotional state of the characters. But apart from that, common elements would also include the depiction of the dark, malevolent side of humanity, the relatability of the audience to the characters – despite their being haunted individuals, the dark, foreboding mood, the violence present, which are usually graphic, and the inclusion of unexpected and frightening twists in the plot. Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho does contain these elements, and thus is regarded as one of the finest examples of the modern horror genre. The beginning of the story started out plain enough. Marion is a secretary who runs away with the money of his boss’ client in order to be with her lover. However on the long drive to Sam, she is met by several obstacles like the cop that seems to be sniffing her out, bad weather and fatigue. It was because of the last said obstacle that she ended up in the Bates Motel. Here she meets the owner and keeper of the motel, Norman Bates. He seems nice enough, gentlemanly and soft-spoken even, but there already are sure signs that he is not as pleasant as he looks. The parlor in his office is filled with stuffed birds, and when Marion assumes that he knows a lot about birds, he corrects her by saying that he is no expert on birds; he just likes stuffing them. Also, it is in this conversation between the two of them that the audience is first given a glimpse of Norman’s seemingly disturbed mental state, becoming rigid and taking offense when Marion suggests that he place his â€Å"ill† mother in an institution. The way Hitchcock framed the headshots of Norman made him seem like he was about ready to strike, aggressive. Later on, in the famous shower scene, he would prove to be exactly that. But despite those telling signs, in those moments when he is the nice Norman, the audience can relate to the lonely young man who is verbally abused by his mother, but would not leave her because he sincerely believes she needs him to take care of her. It is precisely in this charm and relatability of his character that made the revelation of the plot highly successful later on. As for the mood, the house atop the hill behind the motel is indeed a dark and foreboding one. Always cast in shadows, and the structure itself, being old, looks scary by itself. Of course, the violence aspect of the film is also one of the most pivotal parts of Psycho. Although there is but one shower scene which depicted the killing of Marion with a kitchen knife in the shower, the movie is rife with the element of violence. Arbogast the detective was killed, Norman’s â€Å"mother† was verbally abusing him, and both the dead bodies were later on ditched in the swamp. As for the twist, as mentioned earlier, it is because of Norman’s charm as a character that made the twist even more effective. All throughout the film, the audience – as well as the other characters – were led to believe that Norman’s mother is indeed alive. Later on, the audience finds out that the â€Å"mother† they all thought to be in the story is actually Norman himself who has somehow kept his mother alive, quite literally, in his own mind. What makes this movie the successful horror story that it is then is because it was successful in eliciting from the audience the emotion of fear, be it for Marion who was running away from the cop, or being stabbed in the shower. Because the audience’s attention was focused on the hunt for Marion and the money, the element of surprise clearly was on the side of Norman’s story, him being not a direct figure in the Marion-money-Sam storyline anyway. With this example, we clearly see that the horror genre is not defined by the presence of monsters in the film (although Norman, in a figurative sense, can be considered a monster), but by its ability to evoke the emotion of fear from the audience, mirroring that of the characters they see onscreen. MHCC is just for Me Essay When I graduated high school, I knew that if I wanted to get ahead in life I was going to have to get into college. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, made me worry about spending money on a traditional four year university. I realized that there were several cheaper options for a higher education were around my area. Starting my education at a community college seemed like the right step for me once I understood that the credits would all transfer to a university that I could choose at a later date. This was my first sensible step towards furthering my education. The problem was trying to decide which college to go to. I had to choose from Portland community college (PCC), Clackamas (CCC) or Mount Hood (MHCC). After sorting through the pros and cons, some of which were proximity to home and work, class availability and, helpful resources, it became clear which college was right for me. MHCC was my choice because it convenient for me. When choosing which community college to attend, the first thought was the distance from both work and home. I knew that I needed a place that was close enough to where I work so that I could take as many classes as I needed and not have to worry that I am going to be late for work because of traffic or some other distraction. Another reason that I need a place that was close is to save gas, as I am currently paying my own tuition and saving money is essential for a financially deprived student. It turns out Mt. Hood is only five miles away from my house, and even more convenient was that it was right down the street from where I work. With MHCC being so close to my work and home and I am only late to class because of my oversleeping. I have also been able to fit in extra classes every semester because of the time I save to squeeze it in without having to ask for any additional time off from work. I am currently working part time job at Bi-Mart so flexibility with scheduling is necessity for my schooling. My current situation for school is that I get to decide which two days I am off, and with those two days I can create my school schedule. MHCC scheduling is so convenient because that the same class that I may need could be taught by several different instructors which all have different times and different days allowing me to shape a schedule that will fit. This has really allowed me to appreciate the classes that are held twice a week for that reason. My usually schedule for school can sometimes take me all day. It starts with a morning class around eight all the way through the day until an evening course till around eight. Without the classes held only two days a week I don’t know how long it would take for me to graduate. One of the resources that I keep constantly using at Mt. Hood is the Learning Center’s tutors up on the second floor of the main campus l ibrary. I know that I am not the only student in the class room, so when I cannot get a meeting with the teacher to go over class items that I do not understand clearly I go to the tutor center. When I am up there I can receive all the help that I need for any school work that I am behind in. I know this because I go to the math tutor all the time for help just to get help that I need. I also have gone to the writing tutor in the past to help with papers that I get stuck on. I know that I am not a very strong writer and not all the rules of grammar stick with me, so knowing that there is a person that can help me makes me a more confident student and it makes me feel like I can achieve more. The convenience of the tutoring center has allowed me to be a better student. To be honest without MHCC, I don’t know if I would have the drive to go to another school. When thinking about the future it makes me cringe sometimes. If anything I have learned from working at Bi-Mart, I know that working dead end jobs as a lifestyle is not going to be in my best interest if I want to achieve something in my life. For that I consider Mount Hood to be a great school to attend. I am glad that I could find a school that could fit into my life and my future goals. At MHCC I have learned so much, and have improved both my writing and math. I know that furthering myself with an education is only going to benefit me in the time ahead and with the education at Mt. Hood I know that when I am able to transfer to that four year university I know that I will have the tools to be able to succeed not only there but beyond the university as well.

Different Styles of Spoken Language :: Essays on Spoken Language

Throughout my life I have worked in a variety of settings and have learned various skills and techniques when it comes to dealing with others. One of those skills I have learned is how to use different styles of spoken language, to fit in and become accepted. By using different styles in different working environments I have mastered the skill of tongue twisting. Meaning that I am able to convince people I know what I am talking about and make them feel at ease when talking to me. This paper is going to examine two working environments that are very different from one another and in both I used spoken style of speech to become accepted and good at my job. One of the jobs I worked at was, The Graduate Business library of St. Thomas University and the other was, Diversified plastics Manufacturing Plant. Both in comparison, were like night and day. I will describe the two working environments and show the styles I had to incorporate into each job. First, was the Graduate Business Library of St. Thomas University. This was a computer and business resource center that is located in the center of downtown Minneapolis, only blocks away from Orchestra Hall. The people I worked with and assisted were primarily graduate students and professors. I started this job my freshman year and at first it was overwhelming the amount of research data and various business tools, that I had to know and use. I don't know how many of you have ever had to work with graduate students and professors, but they are always in a hurry and they are very demanding. At this job I needed to jump up from the freshman stereotypes and convince them I know what I am talking about. They had no time to listen to a beginning year college student and their seasoned years of school made it difficult to gain their respect. Now I, being the only night assistant realized that given my working environment I had to learn as much as I possible could to somehow gain their re spect. Not so much respect for me, but respect that I was giving them my best effort and all the available resources our center had. By doing this, I developed a style in which I could convince others that and command them, instead of them commanding me. The style I categorized is one with authority and confidence.

Medieval Europe †Papal Reformation Essay

Since the Council of Nicaea called in the fourth century by Constantine to the early eleventh century, the Church was never established as a free standing institution. For over eight hundred years the Church had been under the authority of secular powers. Charlemagne and the Carolingians emperors saw themselves as the ones to maintain the Church materially, organizationally, and spiritually, while the pope was only an example of ideal Christian living. Social deterioration led to the corruption of the Church and its offices; simony being the biggest problem. The papacy itself was corrupted by simony and Roman politics. While reform had been taking place in the local levels for some time, the papacy was the last part of the Church to be reformed. The papacy reformation came about through three major popes: Leo IX (1049-1054), Nicholas II (1059-1061), and Gregory VII (1073-1085). The actions by these popes in the eleventh century would root out the corruption within the church and caus e conflict between the secular authorities and the papacy resulting in the separation and establishing of the Church as a power on its own. After numerous corrupt popes, Leo IX is considered to be the pope that started the papacy reformation. Ironically, he was appointed pope by his cousin Emperor Henry III. After being coroneted, Leo spent less than six months in Rome traveling through Italy, Germany, France, and as far as Hungary ( Blum, 485). According to Backman, â€Å"Leo recognized two things from the very start: first, the papacy could not be properly reformed so long as it remained mired in Roman factional politics; and second, the papacy needed to be seen by the faithful in order to secure the gains of the reform† (Backman, 268). Leo was literally the first pope to be seen by most Christians (Backman, 268), and he wanted to â€Å"project an image of the papacy in action† (Blum, 485). For a long time the title of pope was just a name without any meaning or power; however, Leo would change that with his travels. Leo’s great accomplishments were abolishing simony, help ending the practice of cl erical marriage, and improving the clergies training and education. Pope Leo IX, through his travels had plans of establishing his authority while also rooting out corruption still in local churches. â€Å"Leo staged large-scale Masses, pronounced Peace and Truce decrees, and offered all the faithful the opportunity to air grievances about their local church and ecclesiastical leaders† (Backman, 269). Clergy that had obtained their position by way of simony were given the chance to retain their office only if the confessed their faults and swore publicly to dedicate themselves to the reformed Church. According to Backman these acts were performed in public for two reasons: First, the people themselves got to hear the confession of their clergy, and second, the pope got the pleasure of having the faithful see the priest, bishops, and archbishops kneeling before Leo, in other words, used the reform-celebration itself as a means for establishing papal authority over the episcopacy. Henceforth, everyone understood that the bishops served as the legitimate leaders of the Church because the Holy Father himself had publically bestowed their office upon them. The papacy now stood at the head of a new hierarchy and determined its legitimacy. 269 The last major contributing act Leo had towards the reformation was the creation of the College of Cardinals. Leo saw that the Church was not intellectually able to deal with issue it was faced with. He created a body of advisors for the papacy that included theologians, lawyers, philosophers, historians, scientists, and diplomats. These handpicked advisors would lend expert council to the pope on settling and resolving doctrinal issues never really solved by the Church. One of the issues they dealt with was celibacy for the clergy; this would not be settled until Pope Nicholas II. The papacy was now the decision making center on doctrinal issues for the Church. Leo IX was a major turning point for the Church, but unfortunately he would not finish what he started. The next pope to further the papal reformation was Nicholas II. Pope Nicholas II built upon what Leo IX had already done. Nicholas and a council produced the Lateran synod of April 1059. The synod ended clerical marriage and established clergy celibacy. It also added to the strict prevention of simony. Also with the synod, Nicholas and the council made two major decisions that would shape the papacy up until today. The first of these decisions was to condemn the practice of lay investiture. â€Å"The ritual by which a lay prince â€Å"invested† a priest or bishop with the insignia of his office suggested that the ecclesiastical authority was subordinate to the secular† (Backman, 270). The papacy now condemned this seeing as the reforming popes were trying to establish the Church as an entity on its own. The Church wanted to control everything about itself and completely cut off any secular ties trying to control it. The second major decision Nicholas and the council made was mad in the Papal Election Decree of 1059. This was to ensure no pope could ever be placed in power by a secular ruler but only elected by the College of Cardinals. Backman describes it as this: †¦for all eternity the only way for any individual to become the legitimate pontiff of the Holy Catholic Church was to be freely elected to the position by the College of Cardinals. This decree removed the Holy See from the clutched of the Roman magnates, but it also declared the papacy’s independence from the imperial power. 270 These actions changed the state’s authority over the church that had been present since Constantine. When Henry IV came to power in 1056, he did not like the actions taken by the Church and trying to separate from his authority. The tension between the papacy and secular powers came to a high during the pontificate of Pope Gregory VII. Now Gregory VII had begun his career in Rome during the pontificate of Leo IX as Leo’s â€Å"‘secretary of state’ and author of his important papers† (Blum, 485). So Gregory had been around since the beginning of the papal reformation. His actions and policies would lead to the biggest conflict between the Church and State during this reformation. After dealing with carious rebellions, Henry IV’s resent meant lead him to prepare to attack Rome and deal with the papacy’s action. Henry wanted to show that he had supremacy and was the ruler of both Church and State. Before Henry could attack, Gregory responded with a declaration called the Dictatus Papae. This was a list of twenty-seven single sentence decrees about papal power. Gaudemet defines them as, â€Å"lapidary and unrestrained terms the universal power of the pope; his authority over bishops, clerics and councils, and his right to depose the emperor, to certify every canonical text, to make law and to deliver judgment from which there is no appeal† (Gaudemet, 470). Gregory was trying to establish that he alone, as the pope, had complete supremacy over both Church and the emperor. Henry took these Dictates as a direct attack on his royal rights and power. This led to both Gregory and Henry writing letters back and forth to each other with increasing t ensions with each letter. These letters led to both of them excommunicating and deposing the other from office at the end of 1076. The excommunicating of each other would lead to a major event in establishing supremacy to the pope. Gregory, being the pope, was still head of the Church, and Henry found himself still excommunicated. Henry and his advisor devised a plan to get him forgiven and restored into the Church. Being the pope meant that Gregory was a priest, and he would have to forgive a penitent sinner. Gregory was caught off guard at his castle in Canossa, Italy by Henry’s arrival and asking of forgiveness. This had made Gregory furious, but he had to forgive him. Gregory used this to his advantage, showing that he had supremacy over the emperor. Gregory made Henry stand outside his window barefoot wearing penitential rags for three days begging for forgiveness and pleading for restoration. While this move by Henry helped him with his enemies and restored him back into the Church, this move also hurt him. This move now shifted the supremacy towards the pope. The emperor was now seen as submissive to the pope and had to do what the pope said. While more conflicts happened between Gregory VII and Henry IV, the investiture struggle would not end with them. It was officially ended in 1122 with Henry IV’s son, Henry the V, and Pope Calixtus II (1119-1124) with the Concordat of Worms. This allowed ecclesiastical appointment to be made by the Church alone but also allowed secular rulers to participate with the lands and appurtenances supplementary to the positions. The issue of papal supremacy over imperial supremacy was circumvented, only to erupt again in centuries later. While Urban II (1088-1099) was able to finalize the reform of the Church during his pontificate, it wasn’t really until the end of the twelfth century that the Church reform came to a conclusion. Gregory VII and the popes following openly proclaimed the Church’s supremacy and sovereignty over the secular world. They had not only made the Church a standing institution on its own, but they had reversed the historical roles of the Church and State. Since the time of Gregory VII, the papacy had become a massive bureaucracy. The Church now had an ostentatious financial machinery, judicial system, bureaucratic structure, police network, and standing army. The Church was now its own free standing institution and would eventually become its own sovereign city-state.

Computerized Entrance Examination System CHAPTER I: HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Introduction In the earlier days admission to higher and professional studies was essentially based on the performance in the entrance examinations conducted annually by various High Schools. The gradual degeneration of the conventional examination system manifested in frequent leakage of question papers, manipulation of marks, copying and use of unfair means by all involved (administration not ruled out). Entrance examinations have been devised by some reputed institutions to screen the large set of students coming from vastly different backgrounds for admission.The traditional Manual Entrance Examination is successful example conducted by CAYSMNHS. Subsequently most of the States and Private High School have started entrance examinations in many fields. They have proliferated enormously and indirectly contributed to the coaching culture. With the passage of time both the entrance examination as well as coachi ng institutions have become an important source of resource generation to the detriment of the candidates from the candidate's point of view, it is an avoidable expenditure. Many secondary schools had been built long before in the province of Rizal.Some are private schools, while the others are just part of the hundreds of state high schools founded to provide education in the municipalities. As the search for better and excellent education that can produce highly competitive individuals continued, a kingdom was born to life. Then was the name  Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School  raised to noise. CAYSMNHS is situated at the Rizal Provincial lot in Hilltop, Cabrera Road, Tikling, Taytay, Rizal. It has a total lot area of 4,260 sq. m which was donated by the Rizal Government through Gov. Casimiro Ynares Jr.In the year 2002, the original plan bears the proposed three-storey building consists of 12 rooms to rise in Hapay na Mangga right across Hapay na Mangga Eleme ntary School which has a lot area of 3. 5 hectares slope site. However, the plan was not pursued due to the landslide incident which affected many residents in the place. Governor Ynares then offered the provincial property between Rizal Provincial jail and Provincial PNP Headquarters to serve as the foundation of the new school. In 2004, through the initiative of the People’s Economic Council, the Sangguniang Barangay headed by Brgy. Captain Magtanggol E.Macabuhay Jr. , and the municipal officials through the leadership of Mayor George R. Gacula II, the construction of the four-storey building with 15 rooms was started and it was turned-over to DepEd Rizal through Dr. Edith A. Doblada, the Schools Division Superintendent. Mrs. Cynthia M. Cruz who was the principal of Taytay National High School processed the papers for opening of classes which was realized in June 2005 through the assistance of Mrs. Loida Alcantara, now the principal of Gen. Licerio MNHS in Rodriguez, Rizal. Taytay NHS was the mother school of Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. MNHS and Mrs.Nenita De Leon acted as the officer-in-charge. The first teacher-in-charge was Mrs. Marlene R. Nepomuceno, a Master Teacher in Math from Malaya, Pililia, Rizal. There were six brilliant and hardworking teachers borrowed from Taytay NHS who served as a pioneer teaching force and four staff funded by the local government. It has a total enrolment of 212 students and the school caters students that are classified as pilot and regular class sections. At first, the school had been quiet – as at that time, teachers and students were just starting to adjust to a new world and were preparing to accept the challenge of global competency.The next year had been a fruitful year for CAYS since the school had started to give more active participation with regards to interschool contests and competition. No wonder students and teachers just harvested several awards and won several division contests, attended seminars, joined the national level IP project presentation, established its own Red Cross Youth Council and Supreme Student Council, and kept themselves disciplined as renowned by every school in Rizal, and even parents around the locality knew of its existence.By that, the name CAYS bubbled up in the whole vicinity and graduating elementary students started to like this school to enroll for their secondary education. Surprisingly, these students and parents who were planning to be a part of CAYS had been coming from far away their homes just to take a slot. Some came from neighboring towns and subdivisions, and add to that, even if this school was actually built for poor but talented individuals, those who were actually living fairly in life chose to study here because of its quality education, with disciplined students who were aught early to prevent themselves from engaging to fraternities. As an evidence of quality education, the current school head of CAYS, Mrs. Gloria C. Roque, just re ceived an award of excellence in the previous year. Not for boasting, it’s just – the â€Å"Most Outstanding Secondary School Head† in the whole division. But then, the first chapter of the legacy has ended. The pioneer batch of CAYS, which planted the seeds of now grown and invincible foundation of knowledge, just bid its farewell last year. Then Battalion Commander of Citizenship Advancement Training Michael Mauricio was crowned valedictorian.Though, our chronicle has just begun. And more seasons will be undergone. At present, the school is now an independent public secondary school with a very shocking population growth of 1267 students and 32 teaching and non-teaching personnel. And the four-storey building will soon give birth to a couple of two-storey building, in order to continue its ought to give quality and even better education in the next years to come. And this is  CAYSMNHS, one of the centres for excellence in Rizal,  and this is how our legacy plays itself. ADMISSION Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School (CAYSMNHS), as one of the centers for excellence in the Division of Rizal, offers programs and education that are highly categorized under the Basic Education Curriculum. It also commits to provide better education for new students with its academic projects such as the â€Å"Project Focus† and â€Å"Project Double B: Back to Basics†. It envisions creative learning and empowerment to the students from grade school that attained low performance level.At the same time, it has adequate facilities necessary for providing quality education and add to that, a couple of two-storey building with a total of 14 rooms will soon rise in the campus. And it takes a long time to validate the result. MAJOR OBJECTIVES Increasing the number of applicant that can accommodate in time by reducing the preparation time, importing hard copies of test questionnaires, test answer sheets, bringing the fastest and relevant test result right after the examination.An independent and most secured computer system using a friendly user and graphical user interface and low maintenance and easy to update computer system software packaged was designed. It was concluded that the automation of the system was feasible and would most likely result in increased effectiveness. CONCEPTUAL DESIGN In this project the System Analyst w ill use the â€Å"Agile Model† Agile programming focuses on writing code quickly and showing the evolving results to the customer.Agile programming is a reaction to broken software engineering practices where a lengthy and tedious process keeps software hidden until the very end. Students try to balance school work, multiple sports, clubs, social time with friends, and still need time to sleep and relax. Each of those activities have their own stressors and when combined can cause extreme amounts of stress. With these various causes of stress it seems next to impossible for a student not to experience at least a small amount of stress. According to the NYU study, nearly half (49%) of all students reported feeling a great deal of stress on a daily basis and 31 percent reported feeling somewhat stressed. The statistics prove that a majority of students do experience a large amount of stress, so how are students expected to be successful and happy with such large amounts of stress in their life? Students work so hard trying to fulfill the expectations that they are given and can end up taking on more work than they can handle. The root problems of stress arise due to school, so the issue needs to be addressed by the administration of the school and changes in school work loads and other aspects of school life need to be made. Stress, in small amounts, can prove to actually help students and drive them to be more successful. Some parents set out on a mission to get rid of stress in their kids, but the fact is, some degree of stress is very therapeutic and an appropriate amount of stress is what helps us become strong. The hard part is what's appropriate, Bradley says. Small amounts of stress can build character and teach students to work hard. However, the effects of large amounts of stress can be detrimental to the mental health of high school students. According to an article from USA Today, stress-related behaviors such as lack of sleep, lack of exercise, poor eating habits can all occur in response to stress. Another study conducted by NYU showed that a huge response to extreme stress in students is substance abuse. "Substance use for stress relief was a predominant theme in our interviews with students, over two-thirds of whom described substance use as both endemic to their social experience and as a method for managing stress," says Dr. Charles Cleland, a study investigator. If students are being faced with enough stress that they are turning to substance abuse, than schools need to make changes in order to reduce this large amount of stress. Such changes could include decreasing a student's workload, offering students more help when they are struggling, or simply not pushing the students as hard with such high expectations. The other huge problem with the amount of stress teenagers are facing is that high levels of stress can lead to other mental health problems according to the Black Dog Institute. When a student is faced with chronic stress, they can begin to feel overwhelmed and this can lead to the student becoming withdrawn and feel hopeless and experiencing other symptoms of depression.
